YG Entertainment revealed recently that Big Bang has brought a total of 36 billion KRW of revenue in year 2008.

In 2008 itself, Big Bang has been busy with albums release, concerts, CF, merchandizing sales etc and they had all brought in about 20 thousand million KRW of revenue. All these together with their online sales adds up to 36 billion KRW.

From these, the revenue from their concert were the highest. With 2 concert performances in Japan, 1 concert performance in Thailand and 3-months concert tour in Korea, they had all add up to 5 billion KRW.

The 2nd major source of their revenue is their product endorsement and album sales. They released a total of 6 albums/singles and 8 CFs which totaled up to 4 billion KRW. The 8 CF were their endorsement for FILA, Baskin Robbin’s, Skoolooks, LG CYON, NII etc.

And for their albums/singles released, they began with the release of their 1st Japanese single ‘How Gee’ in January, and subsequently released 1 live album, and several minialbums and official albums which achieved 470,000 copies in album sales, according to HanTeo Chart.

500,000 album sales copies will be expected by this year-end. And with average selling price of 8 thousand KRW each, they are expected to bring in 0.4 billion KRW in revenue.

Big Bang’s songs and member’s solo songs released online are also said to reached about 4 billion won. Even though there is still no exact final sum for revenue from this category, YG representative said looking from current situation from their mobile phone bell ringtones and mobile phone music download record, it is said to be able to bring in over 4 thousand million KRW in revenue.

Their online album sales brings in about 25% of the annual revenue, totalling up to about 16 billion KRW.

And also, with their every public performance, their merchandize sales also brought in about 0.3∼0.4 billion KRW and for their merchandize sales on YG I-Shop, it is said to have achieved about 2 billion KRW in sales. Other than that, an additional of 1 billion KRW was brought with the related sales when they attend certain events in 2008.

Big Bang has also indirectly triggered economic effect during this year. The clothes that they donned for performance on stage has also brought in sales for boutiques selling them in DongDaeMun. And of the group, member GDragon who also does producing for the group has also brought in revenue in terms of copyright terms for their production.

YG Entertainment said, “Big Bang is not only know for their music but also for their fashion. Their fashion influence those in their teens while their music attracts those in their 20s and 30s, they have a wider consumer market as compared to other groups around.”

Group Big Bang has proofed to be also a ‘Big Bang’ in the album sales market.

Following the statistics posted on internet album sales collation site HanTeo site on 26th November, Big Bang’s 2nd official album ‘Remember’ released on 5th November has achieved more than 100,000 albums sales by 25th November, with total album sales of 100,300 copies.

Big Bang have expressed their excitement for attaining such good album sales of more than 100,000 copies in just 3 weeks into their comeback.

Big Bang has already achieved more than 100,000 album sales with the release of their 3rd minialbum ‘Stand Up’ in August. This makes that all the albums that Big Bang released this year have all break the record of 100,000 album sales.

Korea’s two top male stars, Jo In-sung and Joo Jin-mo, have revealed their hunky physiques in their new film, “Frozen Flower.” The film’s preview showed some very tantalizing scenes involving the two actors in bed.

“Frozen Flower” is a historical film about the love and betrayal among a Goryeo king (played by Joo Jin-mo) at the end of the Goryeo era, his queen from China (Song Ji-hyo) and his bodyguard Hong-rim (Jo In-sung). Based on a song from the Goryeo period, the film depicts the king’s homosexual relationship in an unprecedented manner.

Riding the recent gender-bending trend in Korean movies as in “Antique” and “Portrait of a Beauty,” director Yoo Ha of “Frozen Flower” does not flinch from showing what goes on between gay men behind closed doors. The film is currently waiting for its rating, which is likely to be an R-rating, as it contains sizzling scenes between Joo and Jo. Korean film lovers are eagerly waiting for the film’s release, which is slated for December 30.

Big Bang DaeSung has recently revealed that he does exchange mobile phone text-message with female idol groups members, which almost put him into a difficult situation.

DaeSung was on the episode of SBS ‘Family Outing’ aired on 23rd November, where he said shily, “I do exchange text messages with female idol group members.”

After he revealed that, other family members had posed him the question “who?” which immediately had him flustered. His answer was “I can’t go without doing that for even a day”.

He then added, “I drew a line to just exchange 2 messages a day.” which invoked more misunderstanding amongst the listening family members. But after making clear that he meant simply receiving encouragement messages as of friends and not of any love relationship, the other family members said, “So you do text-messaging to keep in contact”.

On another hand, on the same episode, DaeSung revealed, “When I shower, and if there isn’t any cold water coming out, I will pretend to fake my voice.” This was a secret only known to himself.

He then went on to reveal another secret,”On the first episode of ‘Family Outing’ I peeled off the insole of my shoe” showing his webfoot and said, “I took them out during the opening and the ending of the show” causing a ripple of laughter from around him.

Q: Helping the residents who are also the victims of the oil spill in the West Coast as the subject of your MV is really some refreshing.

TaeYang: We wanted to help out with the oil spill since last year but we couldn’t and it was a shame.”

GDragon: Even though we released a lot of minialbums, we try to put in a message for our full-length album. The release of our 1st album ‘Dirty Cash’ looked at the society at the time of a economy crisis. And for this 2nd album, we want to put in the message of hope.”

Q: You released albums after albums without rest.

TaeYang: Because we don’t want to forget. (Laugh) It will not be right if we take a rest. It seems that it is luck on our part that we can continuously release albums. And we thought it is something that we should do to produce enjoyable music at the right time to the masses.

Q: It seems that you guys have as little as no rest since your debut. When will your long vacation come?

SeungRi: It seems we can’t rest for even a day. But we would think that busy is a good thing too. We can’t do much to the fact that we are tired. We are in fact thankful that we can be this busy.

Q: What if, you are given 2 days of rest?

GDragon: I’d like to go to the amusement park with my friends. And I’d like to eat ddeok bbokki on the streets in a place with many people like in MyongDong. It’s been like 4 years since I last did this.”

TaeYang: Me too. When I was still a trainee with JiYoungie, we have a lot of fun taking the subway together to go for our training.

SeungRi: I would like to ride through the streets of MyongDong on a bicycle. I have been wanting to ride a bicycle a lot lately.

TOP: I’d like to find a quiet place and sleep during these 2 days. This is the practical way. Right now, we have to meet so many people in a day, this can be a rather tiring lifestyle.

Since the year has begin wrapping up, Arena Magazine counted down the top 10 most influncial men in Korea. Landing at number 8 is Big Bang Leader, G-Dragon.

Being featured alongside some of South Korea’s most prominent men, undergraduate G-Dragon’s been chosen to be representative of 2008’s “Most Influential in Music and Fashion”.

Without a doubt, G-Dragon’s leading his pack the right way in music with their MKMF acknowledgements. As for fashion, Big Bang originally started the Muffler franchaise and the current colornized theme wear for men.

The 10th Mnet KM Music Festival was held at the Jamsil Olympic Stadium in central Seoul last Saturday.

The gold prize went to Dongbangsingi, Big Bang and Wonder Girls.

Big Bang’s performance melted many a teenage girl’s heart. The group staged “Lies,” “Last Farewell” and “Day by Day” with singer Lee Hyo-ri.

The festival was aired live on local cable channels, Mnet, KM and tvN as well as Mnet Japan.

Big Bang TaeYang was voted #1 for ‘the male idol member who will best succeed going solo’.

DCInside (www.dcinside.com) did the survey 11th-18th November and with a total of 10,084 votes, Taeyang emerged #1 with 2335 votes (23.2%).

Taeyang released his first solo album “HOT” with the title song “Look at Only Me” this May. He also did a first-ever solo concert in July.

Here are the rest of the results. SeungRi received 1,553 votes (15.4%) at 2nd place, SS501 leader Kim Hyun Joong at 3rd position with 1,130 votes (11.2%). Others on the chart are Big Bang GDragon, Kim Hyung Joon and Kim Kyu Jong from SS501.

First of all, TOP (sshi) your kiss scene has become one of the headlines in the news. How have you come to doing that?
- TOP: Well… when we were organizing the performance, we coincidently came up with that idea… just coincidently. This is sort of a topic that is difficult to talk about (laughs)

There are five members in Big Bang, but is there a special reason for TOP to be involved in this scene?
- SR: Because of the fact that the person who is involved in this scene had to have an excellent acting skills, we thought that TOP was suitable for this scene.

Whose idea was it to perform Seung Ri’s “U go Girl”?
- SR: Hyo Ri noona made a suggestion on making a guy version of U Go Girl, and apparently she chose me. I don’t know the reason she chose me though…. (laughs)

To get into the main topic, we were curious of something. Is ‘sunset glow’ a remake or a sampling? (I don’t know the difference between two)
- SR: It’s sampling of course. You can see it the same way as to what Se7en (hyung) has sampled Seo Tae Ji’s “I know (Nan Al A yo).” We just copied the chorus, and everything else was different than the original song.

We know that Big Bang is very well known for their creativity. Weren’t there some contrast in opinions, to make the title song of the album to be a new song?
- TY: In our first album, the title song “Dirty Cash” was focusing on money and gold. But this album we wanted to talk a lot more of society and the community.
When CEO Yang Hyun Suk, suggested Sunset glow as the title song, we were not really supportive of the idea. However, the song itself came out to be good, and as it is a whole album, we wanted to have the adults listen to our song as well. We have recorded this song when our 3rd mini album came out, but we have saved it for it to become the title song of a full album.

Since it is a full album, you guys will work on it for a long period of time. Am I right?
- TY: We are going to have our concert of this album next year on January. Until then, we will be working a lot and after that, we are planning to go to the states.

But, G-dragon, you seem to look sick.
- GD: No, it’s just that yesterday (17th) I have been sleeping a lot in a while, and my eyes started to sore. We didn’t have a schedule for the whole day, so I just slept a lot.
- TOP: Everyone only slept. Because we seem to be stressed out and we are not nervous anymore

Knowing the way to fight against your sleep was improved. Am I right?
- TY: Sleep doesn’t seem to be the opponent we should fight against. When you are sleepy, you should sleep. (laughs) For a while, whenever we had spare time left, we would hang around, but nowadays, whenever we have time we always seem to be sleeping.

It shows that you are busier. The position Big Bang is in now, aren’t you happy for this factor?
- TY: Well… we haven’t really thought about it. But we still have a long way to go. It has only been our third year. We know that we are getting a lot of love from many people, but as much as they love us, I think that we should try our best every time. The position we are in now is not very important, but how we will improve day by day is much more important to us.

What are the strengths and weaknesses of Big Bang?
- GD: The strengths are that all of us have different styles, and as a team we have different colours in music. All of us seem to have different talents. And we have our own colour as a group. And the weaknesses… there are none (laughs)
- TOP: We are not sure about the weaknesses or our limit. But if we think about it, our limit seems to be that we can’t show more things to the audience on stage.
- GD: hmm… Because of the fact that we don’t have much time meaning we don’t have as much time to practice, there are details we can’t practice precisely. There are some improvements we can do during performance

‘Sunset Glow’ seems to be a song with a really cute atmosphere. TOP (sshi) you seemed to be a bit awkward. (laughes)
- TOP: No. Or maybe for the audience it is. But I think I am cute enough for this song (laughs)
